Gifted/Academically Talented Program
Project Challenge 3-5th grade

Project Challenge is available at Prairieview School for those children who have been formally identified in the late spring of second grade.

In grades three through five the gifted/talented children are clustered and placed in one or two classrooms with teachers trained in gifted education. They are offered a differentiated curriculum according to their needs. In addition, gifted students are placed in accelerated math classes which offer enrichment activities and are accelerated by one year.

Along with the differentiated program, the children participate in an after school program which meets twice a month from 2:30-3:45 p.m.

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the2008-2009 session of Project Challenge. We are thrilled to invite your child to join us for some challenging after-school experiences. The Project Challenge Program consists of two parts. First, to meet the needs of each student, teachers will be differentiating and changing curriculum within the classroom. This will be ongoing throughout the school year at the teacher’s discretion. Second, each child is invited to participate in the scheduled after-school program, “Problem Solvers”.

The “Problem Solvers” will begin the year by investigating, comparing, and evaluating the problems and solutions that they themselves are facing in their environment, as well as the problems that others are facing around the world.  This investigation will then lead to the study of people who have dedicated their lives to being part of the solutions, our heroes. The “Problem Solvers” will investigate the qualities that make a hero. They will create their own hero, and plan ways that they can be someone’s hero to become part of the solution.
Meeting dates are listed below and will be held from 2:30 pm until 3:45pm. It is very important for your child to attend all sessions since each session builds off the other.   If your child can not attend a session for a specific reason, please let one of us know prior to the session.

Parents will be asked to take a turn in providing a drink or a healthy snack for the entire group in order to help the students maintain focus. We ask that if you are in charge of snack to please send it in individual packages. Thank you! We will provide the snack & drink for the first session.
