Center Cass District 66 Gifted/Academically Talented Program Students who are in Project Challenge in 6th- 8th Grades are enrolled in advanced classes at Lakeview such as: math, language arts and/or reading. The gifted facilitator at that particular grade level meets weekly with the science and social studies teachers to discuss differentiation strategies for the students in Project Challenge. Throughout the school year PC students may be given more challenging assignments that relate to the particular unit of study that is taking place in a class. These assignments are meant to replace not to add on to a student's work load. Students are encouraged to work together or sometimes individually to complete differentiated assignments. Furthermore, sixth-eighth grade Project Challenge is designed to challenge students beyond everyday class instruction by differentiating assignments, projects, and novel studies in a controlled environment two days a week. This may take place during their study hall time or before school. The Project Challenge program gives the opportunity for the facilitator to work solely with this small group to focus on the alternative assignments that have been given along with completing other activities to stimulate the mind. It is important for students to meet as a group twice a week. This is the time for students to feel comfortable interacting with intellectual peers. Students begin to feel more comfortable and recognize that they have similar abilities, interests and limitations.
