SOCCER
The object of soccer is to score a goal by passing and kicking the ball into the goal. A goal counts for ONE POINT.
The game is started with a KICK OFF (tip) in the middle of the field.
If the ball goes out of bounds over a sideline you do a THROW IN.
If the ball goes out of bounds over and end line, the GOALIE’S TEAM (DEFENSE) gets a GOAL KICK from the small box called the GOAL KICK BOX.
If the ball goes out of bounds over an end line, the OFFENSE (forwards) get a CORNER KICK from the corner of the field.
It is a foul to touch the ball with your hands, arms, or elbows. If you do, the other team gets an INDIRECT KICK at the spot in the open field area where you touched it.
The GOALIE is the only person who can catch or touch the ball with hands or arms. The goalie may catch the ball anywhere inside the big box, called the PENALTY BOX.
The three main positions on a soccer team are:
1. OFFENSE (FORWARDS) who play from the back of the circle to the other team’s goal line.
2. MID FIELDERS who play from the penalty box to penalty box and who help the forwards and defense.
3. DEFENSE (FULLBACKS, SWEEPER, & GOALIE) who play in the penalty box.
Soccer is a game of teamwork, so the ball should be passed to people and not just kicked. When moving or passing the soccer ball, use the inside or outside of you foot or your shoe laces but not your toes.
The ball is advanced down the field by dribbling, heading, or punting (by the goalie).
Size of goal: 8 feet by 24 feet.
