The 7th grade has been working on a unit on value, shading, and still-life
drawings.
They have completed a wide variety of pencil renderings of diverse everyday
objects and still-life subjects of their choice. To complete these finished
pencil renderings, the students used a wide range of values and shading pencils
in the creation of a realistic composition from life.
In the next unit, the 7th grade has been working on Sequential Motion and
Contour Line Drawing. They have created a series of sequential motion effects
in their drawings of living and non-living forms. These drawings give the
illusion of animation through the presentation of still frames of motion.
In addition, in this unit of study they have learned about Futurism, a 20th
century movement of art and the works of Balla and Marcel Duchamp.
Currently, the 7th grade has been using their knowledge of shading, value,
and realism in the creation of a scratchboard design, which has the effect
of a metal plate etching. The work of Spanish artist Goya will be explored.
Goya was a master of the etching technique, which is similar to the scratchboard
medium.
Student examples of still-life, contour line, sequential motion, and scratchboard
are displayed throughout the art gallery hallway and showcase at Lakeview
throughout the semester.
