Highlights from the July, 11, 2016
District 66 Board of Education Meeting:

Recognition and Celebration
Once again, the Board of Education would like to thank the TEAM 66 Education Foundation for their generous support of our students. This year, TEAM 66 is supporting student achievement in District 66 through four classroom grants totaling $10,379. Click here for more information.

Kindergarten Enrollment
Superintendent Dr. Arnold discussed the possible need to add a sixth section of Kindergarten due to an increase in enrollment. An anticipated Kindergarten Teacher position will be posted on the website to be ready for hire if approved by the Board of Education. The administration will work with teachers to prepare a classroom and be ready to have the additional supplies and equipment, if needed. Dr. Arnold will review the actual enrollment with the Board of Education at the August 8th meeting and make a final recommendation at that time about creating an additional section.

Master FacilitiesPlan
The district’s architects from Wight & Co. presented a more detailed look at the scenarios addressing the needs at Elizabeth Ide and Lakeview. A 3-D aerial view of a possible scenario for Ide was provided, along with various examples and pictures to bring further clarification of what future-ready schools look like. (Click here to view the July 11th presentation). More detailed conversations with teachers and the community will resume in September. Further discussions and feedback are needed for proper due diligence of the Master Facilities Plan. Therefore, the Board of Education has decided to push back going to referendum until April 2017. Community Advisory Group (CAG)
The CAG met at Elizabeth Ide before the Board meeting to continue discussion of the facilities plan. The members of this group bring different backgrounds and perspectives, further enhancing the dialogue. The next CAG meeting will be held on September 12, 2016.

The Agenda for the July 25th Committee of the Whole meeting will be: Master Facilities Plan discussion of scenarios and Superintendent Evaluation Process. Please note: Committee of the Whole meetings have been moved to Elizabeth Ide and are always open to the public.
