Construction Update & Encore Student Choice Pilot

Ide School Construction Update & Lakeview Encore Student Choice Pilot

Construction site “inspected” by the Principal for a Day:  Work continued this past week under the watchful eye of 2nd grader Sophia Hermans, who was the Principal for a Day.  As the honorary Principal, Sophia was sure to give the construction workers a “thumbs up” during her inspection.

Encore Student Choice pilot at Lakeview:  With work underway at Ide School, the Board received a presentation from Lakeview Encore teachers about the pilot program during the month of April.  The Encore Student Choice pilot was a result of the survey of parents, current students, and former students that we conducted last winter. One need that was expressed often in the survey results was for 6th-8th graders to have more choice in the Encore classes.  To accommodate this, the teachers allowed students to self-select their Encore course, which was possible through flexible grouping strategies. This has implications for the changes to the learning environment that are currently being developed at Lakeview. Stay tuned for additional details this summer.  In the meantime, check out the Encore Choice Student Presentation and the Board of Education Encore Pilot presentation.

Ide construction moving forward in spite of weather:  Although we had a fair amount of rain over the past week, we are still on track at Ide School.  The foundation for the northwest addition is complete and we are anticipating the installation of the steel framework next week.  Work also began this week on the installation of the new sewer/water line in the west side of the property.
