School Closures Impact Last Day of School and Graduation Day
For planning purposes, the last day of school should be considered to be June 6, 2019 (as noted on the 2018-2019 School Calendar). We have already used four of our designated emergency days. Each year the official last day of school is determined by the Board of Education at the April board meeting after reviewing how many snow/severe weather days were used.

Traditionally, Lakeview's graduation ceremony is held the evening before the last day of school. Families should plan on the graduation ceremony taking place on Tuesday, June 4 (if no more severe weather days) or Wednesday, June 5 (if one or more severe weather days). The latest possible day for graduation will be Wednesday, June 5.

17th Annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (IGED) at Argonne
Every year Argonne National Laboratory hosts "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day" which gives 8th grade girls the opportunity to explore the world of engineering and science. Interested female students registered for a lottery and fourteen Lakeview students were selected to take part in this year's event on February 21st. Argonne's IGED gives young female students a unique opportunity to discover engineering careers alongside world-class scientists and engineers. Participants enjoy motivational presentations by female Argonne employees, tour Argonne's cutting-edge research facilities, connect with a mentor, engage in hands-on engineering experiments, and compete in a team challenge - all designed specifically for middle school-aged girls.
Some highlights from their day:
"My favorite part of the day was when we did the strawberry DNA extraction."
"I learned about different career choices in STEM. I really enjoyed learning about CSI and forensic scientist work."
"I was surprised that we were able to have our own mentors!"
"That it doesn't matter what kind of field you are into, you can still be an engineer."
"I was surprised at how many careers connected to STEAM. I was really excited when we got the 3D printed lenses for our phones."
"My favorite part of the day was making the car and doing hands-on things at the expo."
"I will take away that there are many different jobs related to engineers and scientists."

Black History Month
Throughout the month of February, students observed Black History Month through interactive classroom activities, book reads, and informative and engaging bulletin board displays. These activities were designed to help our students recognize and appreciate the many key contributions of African-Americans throughout our nation's history, including their struggles and exceptional achievements. Thank you to the parent volunteers who assisted with activities and displays for Black History Month.

2019-2020 SDEAA Realignment of Sports Seasons At the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, the Southeast DuPage Elementary Athletic Association (SDEAA), will realign their sports seasons to follow the current Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) seasons. This will allow our students to continue to participate in the SDEAA, and also include post-season competition at a regional, sectional, and state level, depending upon sports or clubs offered. Please see the new season framework below for the multiple boys’ and girls’ activities that Lakeview offers and the corresponding months that a student would be in season for that specific activity.
