Board of Education Briefs – May 9, 2016

Highlights from the May 9, 2016
District 66 Board of Education Meeting:

2016-17 School Day Start Times

Recently, the administration and transportation department reviewed the initial year of running two bus routes, instead of the previous three. While this was a positive change, a significant drawback occurred with the amount of time Lakeview students need to wait before school each day. The Board stated this was a structural problem with transportation and we need to put our students’ educational needs first. In order to rectify the situation for the 2016-17 school year, the administration proposed altering the school day schedule. Dr. Arnold will bring a plan to the Board at the Committee of the Whole meeting on May 23rd with other options.

Master Facilities
The Board of Education discussed several of the scenarios that were presented by Mr. Shearer from Wight & Co. The Board asked if it would be possible to add a second floor to the Lakeview building. Mr. Shearer will have the cost factors ready for the May 23rd Committee of the Whole meeting. Click here for an overview of the entire Master Facilities Planning process.

Community Advisory Group (CAG)
The Community Advisory Group met before the Board meeting with approximately 25 people in attendance. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 11th before the regular Board of Education meeting.
