PARCC Results 2015

Dear District 66 Parents,

The local PARCC scores have been released and are provided below. As you know, the PARCC test is a new assessment and I caution our community to not read too much into the results of a irst-time test such as this.

State Superintendent Dr. Tony Smith emphasized when the statewide results were released, that this is a completely different type of assessment than we've ever had and these results simply set a baseline. Click here to read a letter from Dr. Smith regarding PARCC.

In addition, PARCC standards are internationally benchmarked. Previous tests, such as ISAT, were benchmarked against state standards. This change has created a perception of lower test scores, when in fact they are simply different benchmarks.

Previously on ISAT, proficiency was measured on four levels. Two were considered proficient and two were not. Under PARCC, there are five levels with level three meaning a student is approaching standards and has demonstrated proficiency on some standards but maybe not every standard at the time the test was administered.

District 66 will use these results the way they were intended to be used, which is to inform curriculum decisions in our district. We maintain that our students are not defined by a single test score.

We do believe it is important that our parents are well-informed about what the PARCC results do and do not mean for District 66. To that end, I would like to invite you to a PARCC Parent Information Night on Monday, Jan. 25 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. This meeting will provide an additional analysis of the results and answer your questions about our next steps.

Sincerely,

Tim Arnold, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools
