Highlights from the February 13, 2017 District 66 Board of Education Meeting:
Recognitions and Celebrations:
- Student Recognition – Chase Moy
The Board and Mr. Tom Tedeschi congratulated Lakeview student, Chase Moy, on being selected to the All Illinois Junior Band. Chase was one of 74 students selected from over 200 students by a highly competitive blind audition. Please refer to the District 66 Students section of the February 2017 Newsletter for more details on Chase’s achievement.
- TEAM 66 Board and Officers
The Board recognized and thanked Mrs. Kate Scheck for her years of dedicated volunteer work with TEAM 66. Mrs. Scheck introduced the new TEAM 66 Board of Directors:

- Transfinder Bus Routing Software
Transfinder bus routing software was presented to the Board. After a review of various vendors, it was found that Transfinder software was the most user-friendly and also compatible with PowerSchool. Transfinder can be utilized to ensure student safety, improve communication among staff, and provide tools to help communicate with families. - Transportation Shared Services
Center Cass School District 66, Cass School District 63, and Darien School District 61 are discussing plans to share transportation services, through a phased-in implementation over the next 3-5 years. The first step of the multi-year plan would be to share a Transportation Director between District 66 and District 63 in the 2017-18 school year. The overarching goal of sharing transportation costs across multiple school districts is to reduce costs by increasing efficiencies. It is important to note that District 66 students will continue to be transported with our existing buses and drivers for the 2017-18 school year. For more information, click here.
- Lead Testing
As a result of recent legislation, lead testing is being conducted. Samples from all water faucets in the District were collected and sent to the lab. The results should be ready to present to the Board at the March 13, 2017 meeting.
- Finance Committee
The District Finance Committee reported that the Fund Balance to Reserve Ratio will be examined as a financial test for the District and that the 180 Day Test results were good.
- Facilities Committee
The District Facilities Committee rated and discussed the fourteen architect’s qualifications. They have chosen four to interview next month: STR, Wold, FGM, and Cordogan Clark.
- Communication Committee
The District Communication Committee stated that the website vendor is looking at various templates and that the timeline for the website completion is July 2017.
- Insurance Committee
The District Insurance Committee reported that our provider, Horton, explained self-funded versus pool insurance options.
- Steering Committee
The District Steering Committee explained that the stipends for boys/girls soccer may need to be adjusted and will be discussed at the March meeting.
- Compensation Committee
The District Compensation Committee will meet February 23, 2017.
Committee of the Whole Meeting Agenda
- February 27, 2017: This meeting was cancelled due to the Community Referendum Information event being held on the same date/time.
- March 20, 2017: This meeting may be cancelled due to the Community Referendum Information event that is scheduled at Elizabeth Ide for the same date/time.
BACC for Summer Program
The BACC for Summer Program is a childcare program offered by District 66. The purpose of this program is to provide a safe, convenient, and stimulating environment for those children who need supervision during the summer. The program is housed at Prairieview School and operates five days a week for 10 weeks from June 5, 2017 – August 11, 2017. The program offers various enrollment options for District residents who are graduates of Kindergarten through 5th grade. Enrollment is limited and priority will be given to children who are currently enrolled in the District 66 Before and After Child Care (B.A.C.C.) Program. Additional Registered Nurse
As a result of an increase in the number of students who have specialized medical needs, as well as our focus on being proactive in our response to potential concussions, the Board approved the addition of a part-time registered nurse position. This will provide increased coverage at all three schools for the remainder of the 2016-17 school year.
