After months of hard work, research, and dedication, Lakeview's 7th-grade students proudly presented their projects at the Chicago History Museum in March as part of the Junior Division for National History Day. Their efforts were recognized with high praise, and now, two outstanding groups are preparing to take the next step in their journey—competing at the state level in Springfield tomorrow, May 1st.

Amelia Abate, Chloe Robinson, and Evan Suva advanced with their powerful documentary on the Stonewall Riots, a pivotal event in LGBTQ+ history. Through thorough research and compelling storytelling, they shed light on the movement’s lasting impact and the ongoing fight for equal rights.

Joey Rossi, Alex Januszewski, and Liam Treviranus earned their spot with an impactful exhibit on the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Their project provided a deep and thoughtful exploration of one of history’s darkest periods, analyzing the economic, social, and human consequences through primary sources and visual storytelling.

This year’s National History Day theme, "Rights & Responsibilities in History," challenged students to think critically about the past and its connection to the present. These students rose to the occasion, showcasing their passion, insight, and academic growth.

As they head to Springfield to compete among the best in Illinois, we celebrate all they’ve accomplished so far and wish them the very best of luck at state. Your CCSD66 & Lakeview family is cheering you on—go make history!
