Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
"A System for Supporting All Students"
What is it?
MTSS (A Multi-Tier System of Supports) is designed to proactively identify, screen, and support all students in the areas of academics, social, emotional, behavioral, and overall health using a 3 tier system with evidence-based strategies. This system involves all students, teachers, specialists, school staff and families to target and frequently monitor interventions for the “whole child” in the school and to generalize in the home and community. The MTSS process identifies the needs of students early and allows for differentiated instruction.

How does it work?
Center Cass School District 66 uses a system of tiered support. Below is an outline of how the system works:
• Tier 1: The Whole Class. All students are taught with methods that research has shown to be effective academically, socially and behaviorally. All students are screened three (3) times a year to support continued growth in all areas. Teachers use flexible grouping and differentiated instruction to address student strengths and areas of need.
• Tier 2: Small Group Interventions. Some students receive more targeted support in small groups in or outside of the classroom. Intervention groups are scheduled in addition to core academic instruction.
• Tier 3: Intensive, Individualized Support. Students who require more intensive support continue Tier 1 activities, while also being provided supports that meet the individual needs of the student.
