CCSD66 proudly celebrated Veterans Day by honoring the brave men and women who have served our country — and who continue to serve as inspiring role models within our school community. Veterans visited all three schools, with each ceremony beginning as the Boy Scouts proudly presented the colors.
The day began at Elizabeth Ide, where students gathered to sing patriotic songs in honor of the visiting Veterans. The celebration continued at Prairieview, where the choir performed and four fifth-grade students shared heartfelt essays about what being a Veteran means to them. The ceremony concluded with an inspiring speech by Charles Morgan, U.S. Coast Guard First Class Boatswain’s Mate and proud grandfather of a Prairieview student.
The final stop was Lakeview, where students viewed a moving video about fighting for our country before welcoming the Veterans with applause and gratitude. The Lakeview band performed the Star-Spangled Banner and the fight songs for each military branch, followed by a motivational speech on leadership from Major Justin Conley (U.S. Army), a proud Veteran and parent in the district. The morning concluded with a touching “Walk of Honor,” as Veterans toured the halls while students waved flags and offered their thanks.
Special thanks to TEAM 66 for providing refreshments at each school and helping make this day of remembrance and gratitude truly special.
